Commuters Warned Of Robberies Near Sox Red Line

Since late last month, 4 recent robbery incidents have taken place at or near the south side Sox/35th Red Line stop. The el platform at 35th Street is the closest to US Cellular Field, tourist attraction during baseball season. The rash of robberies happen at all times of the day throughout the morning and evening.

According to the police, the incidents occur at:

  • About 1 p.m. on Aug. 28 in the 100 block of West 33rd Street
  • About 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 30 in the 100 block of West 35th Street
  • About 10:10 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the 3500 block of the Dan Ryan Expressway
  • Roughly 11:23 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 100 block of West 33rd Street

Chicago police have issued a community alert and as always, remember these safety tips:

  • Stay alert when traveling
  • Pay attention to your surroundings
  • Keep your wallets, cell phones and iPods out of sight and,
  • Try to avoid traveling alone at night
