One of the toughest questions you can ask someone obsessed with superheroes is – Which one is better – DC or Marvel?

Both have mind-blowing stories like, The Dark Knight trilogy, or The X-Men. Both have best-selling comics, both have a huge fan-base, and both release movies yearly. But which superhero empire is better?

Let’s start with comparing movies. Both DC and Marvel have released movies in the recent years. Marvel is very laid back and precise when it comes to releasing new movies. They want the audience to connect with the main characters, and learn about the hero’s past and relate. Since the production of the films in 2007, Marvel has made dozens of movies, including films like Black Panther, Ant-Man, Iron Man, The Avengers movies, Spider-Man, The X-Men, and Deadpool.

As for DC, the movie count has been very low. Sadly, they rush through the movies with little characterization. The audience doesn’t get a proper introduction. In fact, one of the reasons Suicide Squad did so badly in the box office is because no one knew the characters. The movies aren’t all bad though. Films like Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Batman v. Superman did very well.

But if we’re counting, Marvel constantly releases more movies than DC. They are always coming up with something new. So the winner for best movies? Marvel.

What about TV shows? Although Marvel does have a few shows, no one ever hears about them. DC on the other hand, does very well with shows like “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “The Arrow,” and DC “Legends of Tomorrow.” When it comes to TV shows, DC is the obvious winner.

However, if we’re going to talk about the amount of money each superhero empire makes, a study by website the therichest.com reveals that Marvel movie characters have brought in 45 percent more revenue that the DC movies. This is a huge amount when you think about all the fans that DC has. Part of the reason Marvel does better in the box office is simply because, as said before, Marvel produces many more films than DC.

Keep in mind that DC has produced the best film. That is, obviously, The Dark Knight. It is often thought as one of the best films ever made, not just one of the best comic book movies ever made. And while DC did make a lot of money with The Dark Knight, as mentioned before, Marvel has made millions all over the world with several movies. So when it comes to the box office and money, Marvel wins.

Now, let’s rewind a little and take a look at the literal characters. Does DC or Marvel have the best superhero? The answer takes us all the way back to 1939, when Batman first appeared in DC Comics. After witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, he dedicates his life to protecting the people of Gotham City. Why is he the most popular superhero in the world? The answer is simple. He’s fully and completely human. Although he has his gadgets and a supercomputer in the Batcave, he is just a normal guy that just happens to be wealthy. He can get hurt, and he can make mistakes. Because of that, the Batman character is a money-making machine. In fact, The Dark Knight made billions of dollars worldwide.

Now that Marvel and DC are tied up, let’s look at one last thing–the thing that made both empire’s successes possible. The fans. That’s right, without the fan base, both empires wouldn’t have made it this far. So who has more fans? Drumroll please…

MARVEL! Unfortunately for DC fans, Marvel has topped it off with a bigger fan base. They’ve also, as mentioned before, released more movies than DC. So, the bottom line is, Marvel probably is better in most areas. But to my DC fans, don’t be discouraged, because you have Batman, and no Marvel superhero can ever beat him.
