Tuesday, December 12 Senator Roy Moore (R) took a surprising defeat by opponent Doug Jones (D) in the state of Alabama. We all know that Alabama is a Republican/conservative state but specifically that night Doug Jones a Democrat won. He is the first Democrat to win in the conservative state in two decades. Moore didn’t take his fifty-one to forty-nine loss well and decided instead to state “…we also know that God is in control and part of the problem with this campaign is we’ve been painted in an unfavorable and unfaithful light.” Also quoting Psalms 40 stating, “I’ve waited patiently for the Lord and that’s what we’ve got to do.”

This speech led to the illustrious Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling tweeting, “Narrator’s voice: Roy was right. God was in control. What he didn’t realize was, She’s Black.” This tweet was in reference to the recent sexual assault allegations against women as well as allegations of racism that have been said to have been done by Senator Moore himself. Many people believe that Moore lost the race because of the Black females in Alabama that voted against him. Tweet aside, Moore isn’t taking his defeat well with the special election in the conservative Southern state where 21,000 votes were casted enthusiastically.

As recent as Friday, Dec. 17, Moore still had not conceded to Jones. According to the Chicago Tribune, Moore has instead been emailing his supporters to ask for contributions for his “election integrity fund” to investigate voter fraud.
