My plan for the last 10 minutes was to continue my homework, but after I took a break and saw some trash on Facebook I just needed to get this out!

So I’m scrolling on Facebook, and I see this post saying “What the Freshman XXL 2017 Class should be…”

The list included the following:

Ugly God, Famous Dex, Blac Youngsta, Madeintyo, Young Dolph, Young M.A., PNB Rock, Xxxtentacion, Lil Peep, Lil Pump, Slump God, Duwap Kaine, Rich the Kid, Trill Sammy, Playboi Carti, YFN Lucci, A Boogie, Lud Foe, Rico Recklezz, DRAM, Dae Dae, Montana of 300, Nav, 6lack, Tee Grizzly, HoodRich Pablo Juan, Don Q, Amine, NBA Young Boy, Smokepump, and Robb Banks.

This is just a pitiful shame.

This platform, meaning the Freshman Class, was for those who put in work allll throughout the year before and who are expected to grow exponentially through the year they are nominated for, (yes I used a big word). This platform is for people who have consistently demonstrated a skill that Hip Hop needs or added to the culture of Hip Hop in some way, by either creation or emulation. This platform is for those who DESERVE the credit that it gives.

Y’all know that type of title that’s given to exclusive, noble, and worthy people, but then gets thrown around and loses some credibility, kinda like Presidency in the United States is right now. That’s what the Freshman Class has become, it’s lost the exclusivity and high qualification that makes it so noble and special!

I mean, maybe the editors are lowering the standard and requirements to become a member of the freshman class because of the pool of “talent” they have to choose from. But at the same time, that’s not an excuse. It’s about 5 people on the list above that could possibly ever be considered if it was my decision. XXL shouldn’t lower the standards of the title because then everybody loses the lens of how we view that accomplishment.

Like nobody can make me understand why Desiigner and Dave East have the same accomplishment. That’s just not okay. I really vouch for Dave East because he put in wuuurrrk! Desiigner dropped a social media boosted song and got signed. That’s it. He rapped on a few remixes but where are the receipts y’all?! He got an album but even with a PUSHA T feature it wasn’t good at all.  Did people without TIDAL even know that it dropped?

But nonetheless, they both made that appearance on the not so note worthy XXL 2016 Freshman Class.

This just sucks for everyone. Do better bruh. Look at the skill differences y’all.
