On Thursday, April 4, 2013 rapper Rick Ross issued an apology concerning the controversial “pro-rape” lyrics in his rap when he was featured in fellow rapper Rocko’s song “U.O.E.N.O.” In Ross’s verse he states, “Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it. I took her home and I enjoyed that. She ain’t even know it.” Sounds kind of suspicious doesn’t it? Well to avoid losing his endorsement from Reebok, and possibly losing his female fans, he sent out an apology on Twitter that said,

“Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women. @ReebokClassics @UltraViolet.” He also tweeted “I don’t condone rape. Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS.”

Well, if drugging someone and having your way with them isn’t rape, then what else could that be?

The incident has made national headlines and upset lots of people. This actually reminds me of when Lil Wayne recently used Emmett Till’s name in an inappropriate way in the remix of his song “Karate Chop.” Both artists need to be more conscious and considerate of what they put in their lyrics because a line in a song can cause a large uproar.

Well, what do you think of the situation?  Are people overreacting or is there a serious issue with rappers being very inconsiderate?
