As time goes on and technology really begins to take jobs from the not-so-tech-savvy people, education is going to be the one thing that separates the haves from the have nots. I’ve had the conversation with several people about how they regret not going to school or not finishing when they did go. On the one hand I feel like experience is better than any degree will ever be, but in the world of careers employers look for that commitment strength that is applied to those who go to school and finish. I went to the best university directly after high school and I’m still trying to get my footing almost four years later.

These jobs want you to have experience and education, so there’s really no winning as far I’m concerned. If you don’t know anyone, it’s pretty difficult to get in anywhere worth working. So I advise those that ask me, if you do decide to attend college, go for something you know is lucrative and beginning a career post graduation won’t be hard. That reality can be ridiculously depressing and it takes a lot of praying and coaching to come out from under it. I have an aunt who has yearned to be a pharmacist her entire life. She went the hustlers route and did cosmetology school to gain a trade and now has the ability to turn even the rustiest penny into a dime. But she wasn’t happy and quickly after she completed school, she was dissatisfied and ultimately back to square one with this same dream. She looked up and 30 turned to 40 and now 40’s almost 50, urging her to decide to make the best out of her life and really go for the gusto. She was discouraged and I’m sure sometimes she feels like she cant do it. I’m more than certain she has considered giving up. The negative thoughts that her almost 50 year old brain doesn’t retain information the way her 20-something brain would have. I would listen to her speak and feel empowered because I’ve been where she is. I know the feelings all too well and I just thank God when I’m in any position to help her. The strength she exudes is mind boggling and it makes me see just how important it is to go for what you want it life.

I pray for her often and ask God to take the negative thoughts and feelings out of her spirit and provide her with patience, resilience, understanding and courage to push through. I’ve had visions of her receiving her white coat as the tears of joy disrespect her mascara, but she doesn’t care because she has earned those tears. Joy will come on the morning of her first day as a pharmaceutical distributor. I believe it and so does she. Her advantages as a college student now are more than ever, she has a better focus. She has way more of a head start and she’s aware of what she wants.

Its never to late to attend school, if school is the only way that your dream can be achieved then go after it and don’t stop til you get enough!

With Love,
