There are a few things about this track that I want to get into.

First of all, let’s just start with H.E.R.. I cannot get enough. It is rare that I can listen to a project that is longer than 10 tracks and take a liking to each song. For example, I mean even though my favorite album is The Carter 3, I hate Lollipop. But Apple music has allowed H.E.R. to out all of her songs on one album and I am loving the ease of it all.

Even in tracks like “Facts”, “Avenue”, and “2”, she gives us that voice that says I might be bitter but I’m better, which is what girls in my generation love to proclaim. Point being, she gives me life from Track 1 to Track 21, and she had the nerve to use a sample and make a track that was just as good as the original.

Moving on, I have learned to never listen to Daniel Caesar and talk on the phone with a guy. I will develop these biased and inaccurate feelings for him and I don’t know why. Daniel Caesar is a trap. I think it’s the guitar but in songs like “Get You” and “Hold Me Down” it is most definitely the lyrics.

Personally I can’t listen to this song and resist singing along so I sadly skip it when I’m outside. The pre-chorus parts from both Daniel and HER, and then as they sing the chorus together, oh lort. They are coming at the neck of D’Angelo and Lauryn Hill.

This duet meets every need of a soul song.
