The Knowles Sisters Set Record With Billboard Firsts
Proving to be more than just Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, 30, released her new album A Seat At The Table (Sept. 30), which earned her first #No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, and also makes her and Beyonce the first sisters to have both scored No. 1 albums.
The Houston Texas native is a business woman. She launched her own record label, Saint Records in 2013. She co-released A Seat At The Table on the label along with Columbia Records and she’s also a successful deejay. She also performed as a backup dancer on tour with Destiny’s Child in the past and has written music for her sister and Kelly Rowland.
Solange and her older sister Beyoncé have joined the incredibly exclusive club of musically-inclined siblings (Michael & Janet Jackson, Master P & Silkk the Shocker) that have both charted No. 1 albums in the U.S.
Beyonce’s “Lemonade,” which was released this past spring, was her most recent work to reach No. 1. Solange’s A Seat at the Table has been met with much critical acclaim — with stars including Lena Dunham, Calvin Harris and Rashida Jones praising the album and of course, Beyonce, her sister’s biggest fan.
