Social media has been the anecdote to a lot of successes lately which is proof that this world is not just elevating, but artist and entrepreneurs are excellent at taking the internet and making it a profitable platform where one can build a lucrative career. I tend to do just that, by effectively utilizing my skills to reach and teach as I grow and learn. People like India Love and Justin Bieber knew what to do and how to do it to ensure that their passion and free time later equaled a pay check. Yesterday, I had an old friend from college google me. It was so surprising for one because Google is for what I figured to be “important people” or people with money. I am neither, yet. So never in a million years would I have thought to google myself trying to see what it was that Google had to say about me. She messaged me after she went to the internet and shared her experience. Her message said “Good afternoon. I was about to write you to ask you what site you were using to post your book/story? So I attempted to google you instead of bothering you and you came up on my first page of search results associated with Truestar! Keep grinding girl!” I was appreciative, but more taken aback if anything, after asking if she minded if I screenshot the conversation I was curious to see what she saw. And to my surprise I was definitely at the top of the list for being a Lifestyle blogger with True Star. Amazing.

After going through several different changes of what I wanted to do with my life, I decided to see if there was a way I could do them all and capitalize. Now gaining capital does not always mean compensation. Sometimes, actually most times, money is the very last thing I’m ever looking for within an opportunity. What I have learned about this world and the people who thrive in it is they seek power. The person with the most power has the greatest influence. Look at P.Diddy. We all knew him as Puff Daddy, the one that started out as an intern and before long was owning the company. He grinded and never let anything get in his way. We loved Biggie for the music he put out and the stories he told us, but we paid attention to Diddy. That attention came because he owned it. Diddy is one of my biggest inspirations aside from Jay Z because they worked to understand their market and then took them by storm. Them becoming rich was just a part of the game, but they understood their influence and from that it allowed them unmeasurable power.

Now they have their hands in every industry you could think of that would bring on some notoriety; fashion, alcohol, music, communication, technology. You name it Diddy and Jay Z have a part in it. Neither going to school or even finishing, just pure hustle. Forbes magazine says, “To be an effective influencer, you need both substance and style.” They continued to drop gems by making it pertinent to understand the interpersonal dynamics at play. In layman’s terms, know your market. In all of my climb, I do research. Which sets me apart from the next dreamer. If your goal is to be a social media maven take the time to learn your influencing style. Are you an Assertor, Convincer, Negotiator, Bridger, or Insprieror? Look them all up and see which best describes you and where you want to take your talents. Stealing the hearts and minds of this generation is about execution. They are influenced by action. To win you must be open to losses and vulnerability. Identify where your strengths and weaknesses, work towards development and make them better. Practice your craft. I write everyday, about everything and nothing. Even if its not published, I write it out because it helps. I’m an avid reader. I read everyday, it sharpens my vernacular and communication skills. Find an influence and study them. I love Karen Civil, she’s my go to when I want to be reminded of how effective hustle is.

The best thing I learned from Forbes magazine is to “Know which approach to use in a given situation.” When chasing dreams we tend to just keep our heads down, only coming up for air to say thank you to those that have been on the journey with us. It’s very seldom we get to a point where we recognize that people are watching and taking note of our progress. Sometimes you don’t realize how much of an impact your life has on the lives and hopes of others. It’s important to remain diligent and consistent in your hustle. True Star has taught me a number of things, but discipline has been the one that sticks out the most. It is my duty to make sure that I have enough material every month. Find something that makes your heart pump and share that with the world, it may just change a life.

Do something today that lights a fire in your world.

With Love,
