Chicago Public High School basketball powerhouses Whitney Young and Simeon, have teamed up to host the sixth annual Chicago Elite Classic (CEC) presented by Next Level Health.  This year’s Classis will be held on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion.

The CEC will feature 20 of the best high school basketball teams from across the country. This year’s line-up includes 15 of the top basketball teams from the Chicagoland area, as well as 5 nationally ranked high school basketball teams from Kansas, Missouri, South Carolina and Indiana.

For Simeon High School, Saturday’s game against Chaminade is their first game of the season. With possibly the toughest schedule he’s had thus far, Head Coach Rob Smith is ready to play ball. “The main focus is to play together, play smart, and just try to come out with the W,” he says. Even though their biggest thing is competing to win the City and State Championships, Coach Smith wants his team to continue to get better and play together. When asked if there were any specific players to watch for, he said, “there’s going to be a lot of them. We’re bringing the best players from around the country. We have a total, I think, of maybe 20 kids that’s going to be in the top 100 of their perspective class — that’s freshmen through seniors.”

In past years, we’ve seen various local and out-of-state CEC players compete, that have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. Some alumni include former Simeon player Jabari Parker of the Milwaukee Bucks, and former Whitney Young player, Jahlil Okafor, of the Philadelphia 76ers. Coach Smith explains that he and Whitney Young’s Coach Slaughter, wanted to give players the opportunity to play in bigger venues, and bring players together that may not have seen each other at the high school level, to compete, before becoming NBA players.
