Recently, Kylie Jenner dissed the app Snapchat in a major way. The reality TV star jumped to Twitter saying, “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad.” This tweet resulted in the Snapchat stock value to drop $1.3 billion within one day, according to money.cnn.com.

My question is who is Kylie Jenner? I mean, I clearly know who she is, but who is she? Why is it that from this one unnecessary tweet she caused a company to lose so much money? I understand that she has a huge platform, but why did she find it necessary to make this tweet knowing what the result of it could be? I don’t personally follow her, but apparently she still used the app after slandering it. She tweeted literally 10 minutes after her first tweet, “still love you tho snap… my first love.”

I don’t really understand why this little tweet had such a big influence on so many people to the point where they completely stopped using Snapchat. Why do people find Jenner’s opinion so important? Despite her large platform, I don’t think she should be making such a large influence on so many random people. I wasn’t swayed by the things that Jenner said personally. I also know people who follow and support Jenner who continue to use Snapchat.

I feel like because she knows she has such a big following and influence on how people think and feel about things, she should use this power in a positive way. Instead of talking down about Snapchat, Jenner should use her platform to uplift and support positive things such as charities and schools while also raising awareness about important matters. To be honest, I’m probably still not going to follow Jenner, but my message to her is use you powers for good and not evil.
