If you’re one of those people who loves words, books, writing or just nerding out to creative stuff in general, then you have got to come to this year’s ChiTeen Lit Fest (CTLF) this weekend (Lit Fest Poster). This is an event created for teens by teens. One of the best parts about it is that it’s free! Yep, I said f-r-e-e.

CTLF, open to teens ages 13-19, is an event that strives to create a safe environment for teens while allowing them to showcase their literary talents. From journalism to live poetry performances, Chicago’s youth get to use their skills to express themselves. During the event there will be workshops, panel discussions about cool stuff and much more.

CTLF is now in it’s third year and it continues to grow. Attending this event will allow you to learn more about the craft you’re interested in and give you the opportunity to meet teens from all over the Chicago area that like the same things you like. Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, there are other things for you get involved in. Some of the items on the schedule include Video Games vs. Poetry, Discovery of Self with MoZaic, Introduction to Podcasting, and Fashion, Lifestyle, and Storytelling Through Blogging. My point is, no matter what interests you may have, there is something at CTLF to keep your attention.

Teens that have attended the event in the past have had nothing but positive reviews. They’ve said things such as I had a great time! Way more than I thought I would” and “I got to meet people who have as much of a passion for writing and poetry as I do, which made me super happy.”

CTFL is being sponsored by many well-known Chicago organizations such as the Chicago Public Library, After School Matters, Columbia College Chicago, and Chicago Public Schools. On Friday, April 13th, CTLF will have its Kick-off Party at the Harold Washington Library from 6:00 PM-10:00 PM. Saturday, the 14th, is the teens-only Festival Day at Columbia College Chicago (623 S. Wabash Ave.) from 10:00 AM-6:30 PM. Don’t sleep on this. There is still time to register on Eventbrite. For more info about all the things happening at the event, click here for the full schedule.
